Here is the boys dorm at Xieng Mouk school which is about 50 mins north of Luang Prabang. The road was rough and pot holes filled with water (it is raining here at present) made the journey challenging, but there are 5 villages here and a large high school. As you can see Mashpee students this is a challenging place to live especially was the water was making it very muddy. There were 6 boys in the small hut in picture 1 and 11 in living in the hut in picture 2 and 3. They sleep on the mats on a stage of bamboo and there are no mattresses (in picture 6 you can see their store fire wood underneath the bed) Everything seems to get dusty and muddy and I do agree the boys need to be tidier. You can see that they cook on the floor I guess that is because it is the safest place to build the fire.

This amazingly beautiful creature was captured on film by Gregg Stradiotto who lives here in Luang Prabang. He has been photographing many of the Laos insects and creatures. I think these would be amazing addition for the Science website.
Microscopes
These have been donated by Freshwater Bay Rotary Club and their donors. Some have been put aside for awards for Curtin University STEM Maths and Science Awards and the rest are being taken to Laos. In Laos I am going to work with primary teachers and their students showing them how to use the microscopes. We have microscopes and also gravity lights.
The gravity lights have been created recently. Question to think about is how do you think they work? I am heading to Laos on 5th November in 2016 and arrive in Luang Prabang on 6th November. I have a new 360 capture camera and so have been trying it out in the grounds of Curtin University. |
